Book Release Party: A New Republic of the Heart, by Terry Patten

Wednesday, March 7, 2018, 7:00 to 9:30pm, Berkeley

Join us on March 7th for a very big event — the release party for Terry Patten’s new book (and magnum opus) A New Republic of the Heart.

It’s subtitle is “An Ethos for Revolutionaries” because the inner work and the outer work are coming together right now as a truly revolutionary force. Even though we’ve had many discouraging moments, many of us have also been feeling just such a heroic impulse rising up in our hearts.

Here’s a message from Terry:

I hope you’ll be able to come. This is something of a coming-out party for me and Bay Area Integral is my home community. We’ll make this a celebratory occasion (including wine and cheese, and signed books at a discounted price.)

I worked for a long time on this book (in fact, it’s one of the main reasons that BAI has been quieter for the last couple of years!) But I’m super proud of what has emerged. (It has received a lot of high praise; you can read some of it below.) I sincerely believe it sheds much illuminating light on how we can actually “be the change” that our world now needs so urgently.

I’ll be giving a talk about the vision behind it, and facilitating what I hope will be deep and powerful conversations among small groups.

We really can make a difference. Our world is in crisis, but the future of our very life-support system can be transformed by the quality, intelligence, tenderness, and courage that each of us can cultivate in ourselves.

Let’s get together for a heart-to-heart conversation about the difficult, necessary, creative, and ultimately rewarding work we must each engage in to meaningfully address our most “wicked” problems.

We can have “conversations that matter.” As you’ll see, I believe “a new republic of the heart” is already coming into being, invisibly and quietly.

To our evolution,
Terry

What People Are Saying About Terry

A New Republic of the Heart should be required reading for all humans over the age of 16.

Stanley Krippner, Ph.D.

Saybrook University, co-author Personal Mythology

It clarifies how our wicked problems require us to grow, personally and collectively and helps us in going beyond debate, one-upsmanship and other non-communication. Right on the mark—we must reknit our social fabric and work together—our collective future requires it.

…Profound. What we have here is possibly the finest example of the making of the possible human and with this, the development of a possible world.

Jean Houston, PH.D.

Chancellor, Meridian University, author, A Passion for the Possible

superb, exciting, sane, and enlightening. A social activism that is also personal, emotional, spiritual, ecological, relational, and that stems from, and points toward, the very leading-edge of evolution itself.

Ken Wilber

Terry Patten has woven together strands from evolutionary neuroscience, deep ecology, integral theory, and spiritual wisdom to offer a practical path forward out of humanity’s current morass. Written with great gusto and clarity, this book shows us how to integrate personal and political practice, transforming both our lives and our world. Fascinating, fast-moving, and heartfelt, this book is a gem.

Rick Hanson, Ph.D.

author of Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom

In a world of exploding crises, we are all called to contribute. But how do we find our unique contributions, and how do we make them most effectively, and bring out the best in us and all those whose lives we touch? These are among the most crucial questions of our time, and Terry Patten beautifully elicits the wisdom within us with which we can find our answers.
